Most didactic coursework is completed during the first four semesters in the program.
First-year students conduct research rotations before selecting a thesis research laboratory. The PhD Candidacy Examination, based on a written proposal and oral defense of a research project, is held before the end of the third year in the program.
Throughout the program, students participate in activities that enhance professional skills.
Students typically receive the PhD within six years of matriculating in the program. Graduates go on to postdoctoral research, teaching or industry.
